sizing and fit questions

Raft guide here, picked up a wave sport zg 54 at a local rummage sale for 200$ with paddle! It is in great shape. I knew the deal was too good to pass up. Now my question is can I actually fit in this thing? I weigh in at 220-230 depending on how active I am and beer amount I drink. Plus I am 6'2". I can't even seem to sit down inside this thing. Am I too large? I could make a serious effort to lose some weight but are my legs too long? Any advice is appreciated, always wanted to get into the sport and I am hoping I can make this work.

They list the weight range on that boat as 140-220 so in theory at your lighter weight you are at the top end for that boat. If you have pulled out all the outfitting up front and moved the seat back and still cant fit then you have your answer. Even if you can squeeze in, it sounds like comfort and performance may be issues.

My suggestion is to bring it to the gear swap at Paddlefest in Buena Vista in May. If it's in good shape keep the paddle, and list the kayak for $300. There will be quite a variety of boats in the 300-400 dollar range that you could pick up for little or no additional money..... it's important to be comfortable in your boat. My first kayak was too small for me and I was so uncomfortable I almost gave the sport up....
