Hi. I've just started kayaking and I'm in love...but torn. I am not sure of the right boat for me, the Dagger Showdown or the Wavesport Siren? I have been paddling and can roll the Dagger but have read some good reviews on the Siren and they are both going for the same price. I am 5'2" 105lbs. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.
The showdown is probably better for river-running at your size. I love my siren for stern squirts, flat spins, cartwheels, and it is a lot of fun on easier sections of river. It gets pretty squirly in bigger water, but I'll still take it on easy class IV. Maybe not the most forgiving river-runner for a beginner though. I am 10 lbs heavier and 2 inches taller than you, for perspective.
I love my siren, but it's a LOT of work in anything big. Definitely not very forgiving. I'm 5'1" and about 110 and it's a really good size for me. I'm in Aurora and would be willing to let you use it to see what you think. I've had it for sale a few times, but no serious offers. If you are willing to leave your boat with me you can take the siren for the weekend if you want. I'm heading to the Ark next weekend for the CW club weekend.
