Skate boards definitely take a beating as do side rails, thats a good idea! I'm going look around and see if they have colors too. I'm a little hesitant to use black because heat factor. I talked to 3M and they have a grey and clear safety walk grip tape but it doesn't come on a roll just in huge sheets as they sell it in bulk only. 3M did say the safety walk roll from the hardware store is rated for heavy duty outdoor use and is water resistant. I'm wondering if I intially put on sand and then re-coat over time, if the sand will become slick with the re-coat and sand will need to be reapplied? My only concern with the tape is if the side rails need re-coating I can't get under the grip tape. Although I do have about 12 good coats on the side rails so I should be good but black seems so hot in the sun. As usual, with all things, boating or not, the trade offs are considered.
