Shipping a canoe?

Found the boat I want, but it's 2000 miles away. -- has anyone had boats shipped? Possible? Gotchas? Costs? SYOTR,

yes it is possible but costly.

You will have to ship it with a freight carrier. UPS will not ship a canoe.

Wrap the hell out of it with bubble wrap and then shrink wrap it. This will cost a bit but the freight guys don't know what a canoe is nor do they care. They will drag it, drop it, and use the fork lift on it. So take the time to wrap the shit out of it.

Shipping one canoe 2k will probably run you almost $200.

Once it gets delivered unwrap it with the driver there and inspect the canoe thourgholy, if it is damaged the frieght company is responsible. Once you sign for the boat it is yours damaged or not.

this is the kinda deal IMO. Were you try to find someone coming from the area you bought the boat to near where you live. There are enough freinds of freinds in the US boating community to possibly make this happen. So more details. sj

I have used them in the past, and they are great. they charge by weight, and to have a kayak from GJ to DC was 50.00 and it was thewre in two days.

they are a flight carrier, and the guy/gal dropping the boat off pays, and they don't take cash.

the last boat I bought was an angst, the shipper did a lousy job of packaging, it was wrapped in 6-pack conatiners ( damn boaters)

but the boat was perfect.
