Sandblasting works great. I used to have a sandblasting business and we would do cast iron all the time. We used sand for our abrasive. It left a great profile. Stay away from real aggressive media like steel or slag. Glass bead or silica sand would be best. Also the size and pressure of the blaster will make a difference on the profile left by the blaster
