question re paddle length

I have a 194cm paddle that i bought out of necessity yrs back and find that its hard to paddle my Mamba 8.6 with it, especially in cl 3 or more waves. I am 5.10 but a short torso. Today I tried a 210cm sea kayak paddle and it was much easier to control the boat. What wwpaddle length would be optimal? My arm span is normal.

Prolly 197 for you. I use 194 and I am six foot but I also have ape arms.

I'm six foot and one inch.

Use a 194 Werner bent shaft and love the short length. Great for kick flips and quick strokes, but shorter than most people my height would use. Not a great length for good vertical, forward stroke technique. Most my size prefer 197-200cm.

197 is a good option, it's long enough to give you leverage, but not so long that you will trip over it. At 6'3" and a positive ape index, I have paddled 197cm length paddles for the past 10 years and it seems to be a good balance.

6'1 playboating 194... Creek 197... Long boat 200 looks like length of paddle has a direct correlation with the amount of corrective strokes. For a long boat I try to do only forward strokes.

I agree with Pizzle. 194 for playboating, 197 for creeking.....and I'm only 5'6".
