Pure XL vs Villain???

My first creeker was a Micro 250 which i enjoyed till it busted, the next (and last) was a LL Gus. Really like it for the short time i had it, I only paddled a few creeks though before i sold it and didn't paddle for about 6 years Back into paddling, and ready for another creeker. im not small, 6 ft 3 in, about 225 lbs naked. My primary options im looking at are the Pure XL or Villain. I am demoing the Villain this weekend, im sure i will like it, ive heard such great things. To the best of my knowledge, I cannot demo the Pure (currently living in Billings MT) and this is the boat that has REALLY caught my eye. Enough that i may still be willing to purchase it sight unseen. I know the durability answer between the two, and that is one reason im leaning toward the Pure. I have already read most of the reviews on each boat, im sure they are both good rides. I would love any DIRECT COMPARISONS from people have who have paddled BOTH of these boats. Thanks

Got a buddy that has both. He says the Pure XL is faster and easier to roll. Also more comfortable than villain. I like the look of the peaked deck on the Pure. Looks like it will resurface faster.

Im not sure how the warrenty on the Pure is but the Jackson warrenty is one big reason I got a Villian. no questions boat replacement for 3 years. The outfitting is a joke, but I love the shape of the boat.

I haven't paddled the Pure, but I seriously LOVE my Villain. Everybody I know that paddles it, loves it.

It also rolls very easy, so it caught my eye that Lin3Dawg states the Pure is easier to roll. I thought the Villain might be the easiest boat to roll on the market. The Villain is also quite fast and most people I know really find the outfitting quite comfortable and simple.

No doubt that those Prijon boats are extremely durable, but Jackson backs their boats up with an outstanding warranty..

I would demo both!

The pure has a 5 year warranty. I've heard strong opinions both ways for both boats so if you can demo them both and go with the one that feels better to you.

you are asking about the two best creek boats on the market IMO. so yeah, whatever you get will be outstanding and you will get a feel for that boat.

If you are class V+ paddler who really cares about the differences in the boats, try both. Otherwise get the Pure XL. I have a pure and like the boat design. The outfitting leaves a lot to want except the thigh hooks. The Prijon isn't nearly as refined in some ways as a Jackson. All 38 holes that are drilled through the hull, the cockpit rim needs a file taken to it...etc. The hull is great though....stronger than crosslink. For all the things that Prijon needs to improve on, I'd still get another one.

the Pure XL is a great boat, excellent for multiday trips and bomber. My buddy has had the same Embudo, (another Prijon boat) for years and it just won't break, despite being pig snouted a few times and run down every shallow creek in Wyoming.
Sunshine sports in Billings used to carry Prijon,do they not anymore??

I've paddled the Villain and it is nice- its a copy of the habitat in my opinion, (with worse outfitting).

If you used to paddle a Gus you should try a Remix 79, awesome boat with the best outfitting there is. If you will be at the Red Lodge slalom race this weekend, I will have one

I've got a Pure and have had one for the past year. It's tough, fast, and nimble. Outfitting isn't as good as the Villan. Warranty is better. I'd try 'em both out if you can, but especially given how abusive the rivers are out here on boats, the plastic in the pure won me over. Ran the right chute of Escalante falls and was no worse for wear earlier in the season.

I have both the villan and pure xl.

I have had my villan for about a year now, and while i love the boat, i bought a pure xl to compare it to.

The pure is a totally diferent boat. it still has tons of volume @ 87 gallons, but has a diferent design.

the hull shape has rocker throughout, and a more v hull design with less of a flat bottom under you it diminishes in all directions. it is hard to explan, quick to turn but stays on line.

the outfitting is good, not great. it does need mini-cell foam to get comfy but all boats do. i stay much tighter in the pure.

the villan is a bigger boat in general, it takes longer to turn and get back on line slower.

most of my problem with the villan is that the bulk head gives when i press on it to move around or roll. the cord for the shock system pulls right through the cleat and i slide around on the seat.

i am 6'3 300lbs and only a class IV paddler, terrible review from me, sorry.

get the pure xl.
