If there are fenders covering your trailer tires, where are all these 'nasties' coming from? If the crap is thrown by the tires of the tow vehicle, i.e.
at an angle, the 1" grid of the PolyMax should stop most if not all pieces large enough to do damage.
Any actual accounts of boats damaged this way by road debris? (Not trying to start a battle— just curious.)

The sections run crosswise, with a center tube for support and a pair of rigging straps (i.e. a support structure about 1 ft. by 16 inches square). I weigh 225, and it works for me. (Note hoseclamps holding the edges, which limits the flex.) There's a piece of aluminum angle up front, hidden by the foam pipe insulation.
