Playboat recommendations?

Looking for a new playboat- currently in the 2012 Rockstar. Find this boat slow as f$#k on a wave and am thinking I need a new one. Any recommendations- trying to stay away from the 2016 Rockstar as I'm not a fan of the Jackson outfitting, but dammit they make a good boat...

I second the Jed, super slicey, fun in both waves and holes alike. The outfitting fits like a glove. I would go to a local shop and try one out for a run or two. A few of my friends don't enjoy it (something about being to slow in flat water?).
Bottom Line: I have not tried enough boats to make a final opinion, although I have really enjoyed my time in the Jed (1 year) and if you get the chance to try one out I highly recommend that you do.

Thanks, Owen

Where is your seat in the Rockstar? If it is too far back in can make a difference for catching waves and wave speed(if memory serves me correctly) the boat designs between playboats are super close these days
One shouldn't be so much slower than another unless setup/outfitting is way different between the two. Also the wave style you are surfing may not be what the hull speed was originally for. An example would be that an AllStar(longer hull) can surf flatter greener waves than a Rockstar which can surf holes better than the All star. So a Jed or Möbius may not be any faster than your Rockstar depending on the wave type and outfitting. See what I mean? I wouldn't switch from the Rockstar unless I was too heavy or too light for it. Feel free to correct me buzzards cuz I am no freestyle champ haha.....

I'm actually all the way up in the Rockstar- moved it forward to learn bow stalls and now the bolt is rusted into position so couldn't really change it if I wanted too haha...

my .02 would be to demo a newer Rockstar. Any of the 2013 and up are a vastly improved design. can maybe get a 2015 used, still a sick boat.everyone I know with 2015 rockstars' love the performance. downriver as well as playing.

sorry to say but ,imo 2012 was a subpar design. or at least they massively improved upon it, and rounded them out for all around use.
I demo'ed one back in 2012 and it felt drastically diiferent then any other Jk i had paddled, and not in a good way. from my understanding it was specifically a park and play, competition Hole boat.

That being said, i am a timid playboater, no expert by any means. My boat of choice is a 2012 Superstar. I love my boat. i think its a pretty classic design.
if you want a downriver playboat the 2010>up Star series, (allstar, not Rock star) is a great choice, if you can find one.

if JK outfitting didnt work for me, (knee position has changed in new designs, karma and Rockstar L dont fit me right... zen and superstar do...)
Jed would be my next choice for playboat.

I have always disliked the Rock Star series. I have had a Star tho - well at least I did for many years - However - I demoed a 2016 Rockstar and fell in love. It is so comfortable I can sit in it all day. I even like river running in it - go figure. The backband is improved as well. I still swapped out the happy feet to foam tho - that is a personal preference for me.
Definitely worth demoing one. I never could have believed I would like a boat this much.
