Platypus gravity filter review

I bought the 4 liter gravity filter by platypus. I think it retailed for $99, but with 20% and the dividend, I was only out $35 or so.

I used this on a Selway self support and it worked awesome. Fill the "dirty" bag and hang from a tree. Gravity flows the water through an inline filter to the clean reservoir in less than 3 minutes.

Packs down to maybe 3x10" and doesn't weigh much.

Water from the Selway tasted great.

No Idea how long the filter will last, or how it might perform in dirtier water.

A couple of times it got air locked and had a hard time starting, but better tube management easily prevents this.

We used a katadyn gravity filter on the Middle Fork. 7 days. We noticed the filter slowing down at the end of the trip. replacing filters will beat pumping anyday.

Gravity-flow filters are great. This is probably obvious, but it helps to settle turbid or muddy water in a bucket overnight before pouring it into the filter bag.
