Thanks for the help. I know I'm taking the easy road now. I will try rope wrapping later. I'll try the half of a rubber donut against the plastic stopper for now to keep things quiet.

Right-o. You can buy two donuts, put rubber on three oars, and have one spare. Since the sleeve has a built-in stop, you don't need a whole donut and a half donut is easier to scrooch into place. I cut 'em with a Japanese razor saw, but you can do it with a hacksaw or a big-ass butcher knife.
