NRS dry box mounts

I saw something on Mountain Buzz awhile back about drop bags vs cooler slings/NRS mounts. Has anyone used the NRS dry box mounts? How did you like them? I'm building a new custom sized dry box for my Cat that will be suspended between a crossbar and the back NRS Cat yoke. The yoke top bar is about 1.5 inches lower than the crossbar so I have two choices..... have the hanging tabs on the back of the box made lower by 1.5 inches over the front tabs so it sits level, or use an NRS dry box mount.
Thoughts Buzzards??????

Hi C.Girl,
I've used the NRS drybox mounts for several years and they seem like a good way to go for me. Easy, fast set-up, and secure mounting. What else can you ask for?

I've had 'em on my last 2 Otters and think they're great. I am going to put something to coat the bottom because they do stain the floor of the boat. I saw some rolls of cork tape at the surplus store the other day that I'm thinkin will work.

I also use the dry box mounts. On multiday, I sit on my kitchen box, the mounts keep the box from the role you get if you use straps instead. I don't have tabs on my box because I use it for other stuff besides boating and don't like it getting snagged on tabs. also, If I had tabs on my box, it won't fit in my small truck bed with my whole multiday rig. Yes you get a litte marking on the floor, but who gives a Fu*k. Won't hurt an Aire what so ever.

If you're doing a custom box made I'd have the tabs welded where you need them, and drill some holes and pin or bolt your box in place. It's solid right side up or upside down. The less gear (sraps etc...) the less that can go wrong. My $.02

I've had welded tabs and like them for what Gumby describes. However, as noted above tabs interfere with storage, truck space, etc. And you gotta be careful how the tabs ride with other gear so they don't cause damage to stuff. I just got a set of mounts to try 'cause I'm thinking of going "no tabs".

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if the mounts held the dry box stable. Sounds like they work well. NRS mounts would add some extra $$ above the price of the dry box, but not having tabs would allow more flexibility. My other dry box on my Cat has tabs, and I have a trailer, so the tabs aren't a space problem. My friend has Recretec frames on his raft & Cats. Those lock-in boxes sure are sweet. Thanks for the idea about pinning the box in place Gumby.
