The ash will not stay in an eddy until next high water season, maybe a few days at very most, and then its get washed down. We just got off Lodore and camped at Rippling Brook, some commercials were sharing the other side with us and strained their ash into the river in the morning. I asked them about this and apparently this is standard practice for them and other commercials, strain and put the big chunks in the trash.
I don't do this, I put all ash in a rocket box and reburn the next night.
