Need Advice on Selecting Kayak

I am sure this subject has been beaten like a dead horse, I apologize in advance.

Recently, my brother turned me on to kayaking and I absolutely LOVE it. It's now time to buy my own so that I don't have to constantly rely on his presence. We plan on doing some overnighting so I would assume storage may be an issue.. I am looking for a kayak that will be enough to handle my progression through the sport as well as compensate for my lack of experience. Being as I do not want to drop 1000 bucks this early on I figured I would take some advice and browse for used kayaks based on suggestions. Does anyone have a solid reccomnendation for a kayak based on my needs?

Thanks in Advance

Starting a thread with "Recently my brother turned me on" may not be the best idea...

You need to post your, wt, and how much potential gear you anticipate on carrying. Finding a boat (large burn/everest) that you're at the bottom of the wt range might be best as you can pack quite a bit in them...Plus are you yaking and rarely loading it down with gear...or are you gonna be doing alot of camping and yaking to get there?

Welcome to the sport!!

LOL! Touche!

I am 5'10 160lbs.

I plan on loading it down with gear only on trips that require camping. Which may only be a few times a year. I tend to pack very light when hiking so I will assume I will also be packing light when in the kayak. Other than that I will be"yaking" the local bayous, lakes and creeks as regularly as possible. I am hoping to get into more whitewater type activities out on the river. I just want to ensure that I buy a boat that works well on the flats and can handle itself at the rapids.

I don't usually respond to these posts, but it sounds to me like you're the poster child for the Liquidlogic Remix XP (probably the smaller one). There aren't a lot of boats out there that fit this bill that I'm aware of (i.e. good for overnighters, flat water, and can perform well in whitewater).

I agree with KSC. If you're in Houston it sounds like the XP would better fit your needs.

I do appreciate your help. I have been reading up on The Remix and the Pyranha Fusion. Glad to see that I was on the right path.

Thanks Again.
