Mini Boats? Mini-max/me vs. Trib 9.5'

Looking for thoughts, experiences, and advice deciding between these little rascals. Thanks for sharing!

I'm in the process of getting a small raft. I looked at a bunch in the 9.5 - 12 ft. range (Puma, Mini-Max, Trib, Otter) and decided on a Hyside Outfitter Pro 11.8 - 11'10" long, 6'1" wide. 87 lbs. I want to be able to fish and do weekend trips with gear. After lots of thought, this boat best suited my needs. The center compartment width will allow me to use the dry box off my 14 ft. Cat which saves $$$ on multi-functional gear. I'll be using an NRS Compact Outfitter frame and may add an anchor system when I can afford it. I should get the boat in a couple weeks and I'll post pics in the "raft porn" thread once I have it rigged up. I already have the 14 ft. Cat for whitewater/multi-day trips and wanted something different to compliment it. Smaller & lighter to load on the trailer for quick getaways. These little boats seem to be gaining popularity???

If you are looking to run whitewater in it the mini-max is awesome. I've run one (10 ft) on small class V creeks (clear creek, Bailey, upper yough) all the way to class V large flow rivers (upper gauley). It has good balance and tracks pretty well. Really fun to R2 in. You can even boof with it if you have a good partner. Don't know much about the trib though.

I have several mini-me's and if you are a not an extra large person mini-me work pretty well. It's a quality boat that at 45 lbs can be carried into or out of some rivers where larger boats are a pain. I usually row mine with 8 foot oars and one of my light weight frames (14 lbs ) Going on a week long trip next week with 4 mini's and one small dog. We will eat well and have all the comforts of home. I think a 90 lb. boat is to much to carry. Keep it simple and go lite.

Once you go with a mini boat..... you'll wonder why everyone else is rowing the heavy, slow, and bigger boats that are so much more work. Anything under 12' gives you a great mini that makes rafting a 3 feel like a 4 and so on. Haven't touched my 15' in about 3 years. Cat for high water and mini for everything else. Rafting is so much more fun when it isn't so much work! My 11' can carry all my needs and wants. Started w a mini me and traded it in for the dre bc I'm 220# and needed a bit more room for the dog and me.

I have a mini-max w/frame, really looking forward to this season. As said above, the big boat is going to staying at home a lot more. With the possibility of another lower water season, I'm glad I have it.
