I've always thought they looked cool. A nice alt to having the beach umbrella going in-side out when a gust comes up. I'm guessing you got a sombrero? if not pm me with info
thx,

Scott

another option for quality plywood that can be had at the big box store is baltic birch. It comes in 5/8", 4x5' sheets and is priced way under marine grade. Its basic use is high-end cabinet work and there are no voids and its put together with water proof glue.

ditto on the birch, i used some thick stuff for my floor 3/4" i think. it's heavy, but solid with a bit of flex underfoot (170lb). solved the flex by using a long camstrap under the floor from one side of the frame to the other to give the floor some support underneath. the birch seems to be holding up well so far...

I'm going with plywood that I already have. I'm vacumm bagging some 4 oz glass onto it, sealing the edges with unthickened epoxy and coating that with a couple coats of left over herculiner. If I take the time to make sure the shape is correct it should be bomber for years and cost me nothing but time.

Mine only had the paper on one side. The other, which I used for the bottom, was probably a c grade face.

Marine plywood is nice. They build dories out of the stuff.

I used regular plywood with a lot of spar varnish and poly. At the end of a two month trip they were falling apart and I threw them in the trash at South Cove. I wouldn't use regular for something like the Grand Canyon, even with lots of coating, it falls apart like wet cardboard. I swore a pledge to Meranti (sp?) plywood for ever.

Also, make sure you put sand in the finish. It makes it grippy so it's not slippy.

What kind of plastics. I know the post is a few weeks old.

THANKS.

Nope— it's a molded 2' x 4' panel of 1x1" gridwork, recycled plastic with edges that interlock. Intended for chicken brooders, dog kennels, greenhouse benches, etc. Here's a piece set up for a cat floor:

The stiffeners of aluminum angle lap over the rowing frame and are pop-riveted to the PolyMax. The foam pipe insulation is cable-tied over the ends for safety.

Here's a panel rigged crosswise as a dog deck:

No stiffeners needed for a 55 lb. dog, if the edges are strapped tight to the frame. It's not slippery, drains instantly, is UV resistant, and obviously you can run a strap through anyplace.

I bought 10 sheets or so from TekSupply.com and use some across the rafters in the garage for storage— you can see up through it and it doesn't collect dust like sheets of plywood.

Laura (lhowemt) made some really nice side decks from the stuff, for her raft.

Does it flex easy or pretty sturdy?

Also, can you provide a direct link to this material? I can't seem to find it on their page
