Astral for the PFD- not for the handwarmer. Just because they are great pfds. Excellent, adjustable fit. Solid build. The pocket on the back for a water bladder is great too.
WRSI for the helmet- because of all the research and design decisions that have gone into the helmet. It's one of the safest helmets out there. Some of the companies seem to be operating under the idea that if you just build a shell solid as a rock then thats all the protection you need. And that will probably keep that rock from breaking through and putting a hole in your head. But the energy from the impact has to go somewhere and if the inside is just a layer of soft foam to make that solid shell feel good on your head then the energy is going to travel right on through to you brain.
The other cool thing about the WRSI is that it's built to accept optional ear coverage or a full face protector. So you don't need to own multiple helmets.
I was going to be vague but then I decided to do this other thing.
