I'm about 14 stone (200#), paddled a Jefe last season and wished I had more volume most of the time. Want to pick up a welded Jefe on the cheap?

My observation is that with playboats you can get away with being on the upper end of the weight scale as the boat is designed to still respond when submerged. Creek boats on the other hand completely lose their handling when they sit too low in the water. I think at 190# the Nomad 8.1 would be way too small. I think you're even pushing it in the Jefe, esp. if you want to load the boat with gear. There's a reason that most of the boats out there within your recommended weight range are longer than the 8.1 - the evolution of boat design has show this to advantageous. However, assuming you have your reasons for wanting a shorter boat, I would get something designed for your weight that is shorter. The Superhero comes to mind - there may be others.
