Posts: 471 lost me on that counterbalance weights....what are you hitting hard on the cat and not the 14' raft? maybe hitting the brown water harder when you captn' the cat and therefore don't need the counterbalances !!?

All I've been running is the cat. As soon as it came my round boat was grounded. I probably won't get the round boat out again until it's lazy July dog-float type trips. I'll be running counterweights on trips like that, but if we do some big water with it they'll come off.

It really sucked, they do not go well with oar-popping.

I am a river, babe - I've got plenty of time, I don't know where I'm going, I'm just following the lines..... - "We are water" by Shaye

If I where buying the 9' oars again I MIGHT buy these counterbalanced as well, but the light weight of the non-counterbalanced oars does make them fast which can be an advantage. Just thought I would throw out the counterbalance option in case you have not considered this.
Ever Cat,

I'm curious, What's the width of your 18' frame? Thanks.

It sounds like the vote goes to cataract. I found a decent deal (I think) for a set of three 9 1/2' for $525 with the magnum blades. Doesn't say what type, if any, wrap/sleeve. I guess if needed I can have them wrapped or see if Chip has any ideas on how. =)

Thanks for the input, much appreciated!

The frame for my 18' cat is 42" between the tubes and 74" between the oar locks.

I run counter-weighted Sawyers on both my rigs. When I bought my last boat (used), it had 10ft. Cataract oars with Magnum blades. I tried them on one trip and then bought Sawyers. There are 3 of them taking up space in my garage and I'd like to give them a new home. $125.00/each or give me an offer. I'm in the Metro Denver area.
