so to geek out a little bit (and it's geek, not nerd thank you!) if you want them lighter than aluminum, you really want me to make them out of magnesium.
if you want them super strong, and still light- THAT's when you want Titanium.
that is, provided the design doesn't change much. We do make stuff out of Ti pretty often. Magnesium not so much (not a huge fan of the fires... ) Carbide? well, they'd wear really well, but they'd be brittle has hell, we could do the oarlock shafts out of carbide, the top of the lock out of Ti, the fittings from magnesium, and the actual stand up portion from a thin wall ti tube... or better yet- carbon fiber.
How much you wanna spend?
