Thanks for the scoop on the buckets, we'll have to get some before the next time ours need to be "shared".
I didn't mean to hijack the thread, so I'll try to restart. I love cooking in cast iron and have always brought it along. One trip this summer the other people on the trip did not have an understanding how to care for it, and I got some major rust (grrr). I'm now working on a salvation-army sourced stainless steel set of frying pans. If I score well enough, they might be permanent and save weight, otherwise they'll just be junky ones I only use for group river trips. Recommendation - go stainless. Same thing goes for DO, aluminum is lighter, heats faster, and won't rust if put away wet.
Get a blaster too. Woodland is a nice one, folds flat and have a sweet flame diffuser making it work good turned way down, at least good for a blaster.
