Is my paddle done?

I bought a werner shogun at the end of last season and have been loving it. I noticed a small crack in the center of the blade while paddling yesterday.

You can see in the photo that the crack actually goes through the fiberglass of the paddle blade. I am assuming with the crack started, a few more good hits on the blade will crack the paddle in half. Or is this something I can keep paddling with for a while? Is there any way to repair this on my own or is the paddle blade done for?

I emailed werner and they said this would not likely fall under warranty and they would charge $166 + shipping to replace it. Not really wanting to spend this money, and not have a paddle for a few weeks during peak season.

Glue and seal it with marine epoxy and you might be OK for a while.

Does look too bad to me. I'd epoxy it and keep going.

You should fix that!

You should get that patched before you use it any more.
Water will get inside the Blade and delaminate the foam from the carbon fiber. Then your paddle will be Done. It is likely still fixable now.
Simplest repair to seal it is epoxy putty. or thickened epoxy resin.
But a glass or carbon patch over the top would be stronger

Thanks for the tips. I think I will just epoxy it and see what happens. If I were to patch it what would be the steps as far as prepping the surface and how to apply the patch.

I had something similar happen this winter. A rock went through it while ELF boating. This (no endorsement) or similar product is what I was told to use: Bondo® Fiberglass Resin Repair Kit 420

Footnote kudos plug: Mine was AT and covered under warranty, so I didn't have to bother with the repair.

Sand it, seal it with West Tech system resin. Then sand again and put a carbon patch over it to reinforce it. You could use any of the carbon/aramid/Kevlar materials but straight up carbon will match nicer. I have patched carbon slalom race boats and the patches add a lot of reinforcement. If you just seal it the resin or epoxy will crack again. The patch only needs to be 1" either side of the damage. Relatively easy fix...
