Immersion Research Double D

Looking for a drysuit and found the immersion research double D

Anyone had any experience with it?

Seen it has a back entry zipper. How does this compare to front entry zippers?

Anyone got any other suggestions for different manufactures?

Any advice appreciated.

I liked IR gear, but I've noticed my semi dry pants and shorty dry top are three years old (but worn a LOT!) and now the material absorbs an excessive amount of water. This makes swims a bit more exciting. I've heard of other people with gear thats a few years old having the same complaint, but not sure if they've fixed the problem. Not saying don't go with the DD, may just want to look into it.

Back entry zippers require a buddy to seal you up, and to let you out. Front zips you should be able to manage yourself, but I haven't worn a front zip so couldn't be sure.

I just got my Double D, durable, waterproof, and it really isn't hard to zip and unzip if you're flexible. A very well made garment. Love the socks, overall very pleased. Haven't used a front zip, but it seems like you've got to be flexible to entry/exit those as well. Besides, IR has excellent customer service.

IR gear is awesome. there is no other choice in my book, most durable longest lasting product backed up by great people with a great warranty/service. also, no one is pushing as hard in the R&D dept. to make warm, light, quick drying gear or the dryest outer 4 layer tops and suits.

And for the record: It only takes 1 person to zip up the back entry dry suit. With no problems or issues. if you have a buddy handy, bam you are in quick, but if you take your time and do not jerk it, it is a breeze after a try or 2. there is a video on the website that demonstrate how.

the back entry keeps any chance of water from entering like the cross chest zippers and the range of motion is not even restricted like on the cross zip type.

best stuff you can buy.

IR has GREAT customer service, and the new suit is a lot better suit, now that its 4 layers. If you do have problems with it they will help you out for sure.

Thanks for all the feedback! The IR sounds like a awesome suit that has many great features! The fabric sounds brilliant as well!
How breathable is it? How does it compare to gore tex on Kokatat suits and xp250 used on palm suits?

I love mine! No issues, dry & comfy. With a little yoga I can get in and out of mine alone. Really not a big deal and the zipper is out of the way while paddling.
