For the Escalante (UT) a Mini-Me with oars might be a pain. A couple hundred cfs is a big spring flow and there are lots of boulder jams—
We portaged this one.
But there were long reaches with really tight maneuvering and narrow slots. Our biggest boat, a Jack's Cutthroat with oarframe, got stuck pretty often.
I think it's not as wide as a Mini-Me. But she'd get in slots where she couldn't use the oars and get crosswise, etc. Also wedged under down trees and overhanging brush. I took a pruning saw and used it several times.
The narrow boats were pretty nice.
Here are a single and a double Pack Cat (my ride) that was a challenge to snake through the boulder slaloms. Being able to slip down between the tubes to sneak under Russian olives (face-shredding thorns) was a bonus.
On Snag at 2k I'd probably swim. But for this river it was the perfect craft.
