half cut vs full cut

I would buy a new helmet but I'm undecided between SR FullCut and SR HalfCut...
I usually do 3/4 grade river, so nothing extreme.

Are the ear protections really useful?

They are if you smash an ear drum against a rock. That said, when I run class 3-4 I feel pretty confident that I'll be in control and not doing that. Depends on your comfort level in the water you run. I would get the ear protection.
