GoPros suck

Yeah, i'm trying to get you riled up. My gopro is floating at the bottom of lake Oroville. I lost it on the Tobins section of The north Fork Feather River. I survived the hole surf, but my gopro didnt. It was rolling and had a full battery and 8 hours of sd card ready. 300 bucks down the drain. if you see a picture of a gopro on a kayakers helmet they stick off at least 2 feet, not designed for tight canyons and creeks. So in a shameless self solicitation go on Quirky (you have to make a account, just use the same password as all your porn sites) and vote for my helmet cam that is designed IN the helmet. Hopefully i dont get kicked off the mighty mountainbuzz for this, as this is for the betterment of kayakers and rafters everywhere, and will make me stinkin rich. well if you vote on it, you can also have product input. I need 200 people to vote. I know rallying kayakers is like rallying the Ents to storm Sorans castle, slow to conjure, but fierce once united. But its winter, and most kayakers have idle time, there thoughts turned to deep powder and girls dressed in mink. Or if you are a girl kayaker, dudes wearing Ugs and yoga pants. mmm. So let us propell a dirt bag kayaker to the heights of Billy Madison. instead of a pool in my back yard i will build a play park and stock it with real penguins. You can come and hang out, and when it is -50 in colorado like it is now, we can fill the playpark with antifreeze and rock out. I will be serving beers on the return track that takes you to the top of the run, kayak run, im still not sure of all the lingo yet. Ill work it out. Heres the link.
woops thats my password
heres the link. I must go there are Gopro goons at my door.

ps- excited to hear people whining abour how cool gopros are. Sure if you attach a boating keychain to them. ahh right dont flip over. allright whatever.
thanks. Kayakers Unite! The GOP the liberals, the new party MFB--- Mutha ^&*)in boaters

I'm really surprised we have not seen "in helmet", Multi sport cameras hit the market yet. Seems pretty obvious to have several different camera lenses inside the foam of a helmet, with the brains of the unit nearby, if not spread out into the helmet.

Good answer, way to stay on track, as nothing can float on the bottom, unless you are floating on the bottom of a canyon, or floating in the bottom of your beer, or floating at the bottom of a Float Cascading Style Sheets attribute, or floating at the bottom of some strange abyss. I figure, good Gannon, you appreciate clever wordiness and witticisms, as do I (does your boss know you are looking at mountain buzz at work?) So I will propose a choose your own answer, answer.
A. your fearless helmet cam inventor constructed a poorly poised sentence failing to illustrate that lake Oroville is where the grand and damned feather river flows into, where now said lost and lamented helmet cam is floating ON top there of, not at the bottom of.
B. There is a entrance, inflow of lake Oroville, the top. And a bottom, the outflow. It flows east to west, west being the bottom, this is where my helmet cam is floating, with the meth fed lake oroville freshwater jellyfish.
C. Below lake Oroville there are subterranean caverns, caves and rivers inhabited by Gopro wearing gluten free Lemurians. My Gopro is floating down there, somewhere with them.

Honestly, I'm just glad my post contained correct use of (hopefully) it,its and its, there and their, which witch and the other one .

More questions…

where will i get all the anti freeze for my play park?
Where can a gal find a guy wearing yoga pants and ugs?
call me ill be right over.

Seems like a good idea, but I'd think that you'd want it to be modular and standardized. People use their GoPro's for lots of different applications and it would suck to have it limited to one helmet. I'm not sure how much of the cost is the lens, but if it's say $100 and it's limited to your single helmet, I doubt many people want to throw down an extra $100 for every helmet they buy. They'll just attach a leash to their GoPro so it doesn't get lost like most people already do. But if every component was standardized, modular, and not that difficult to add/remove, and you could even buy a optional case for them all that would look like a current GoPro, that might sell.

I hadn't seen that website before - kind of a cool idea. Do you think "vitamin coffee" could be a winner?

yep it would be expensive. A sweet full face helmet is about 300 bucks. My idea would be a cross helmet for DH mountain biking and kayaking. If you loose this, your heads gone. People easily spend a 2 grand or more on mt bikes. A epic is like 5 grand. The hero 3 is 300 new. If the hole thing could be
kept around 400 bucks or so… People would throw down the cash.

I like the idea about the case interchangeable with climbing helmets, kayak, mt bike,

My big idea is NFL NHL MLB games with helmet cams in them, wireless. See what it looks like to run down a line of football people.

I appreciate the responses.

Avoiding drowning your camera

I think GoPro mounts are pretty susceptible to coming off helmets or whatever else they are mounted on. My buddy lost his when he went under a branch and ooops, camera at the bottom of the river. Some sort of lanyard connecting the camera to the helmet must be there to prevent it from falling in but the other insurance is to have a piece of foam attached to it in some fashion. This will keep it afloat till retrieved. I am a great fan of the Kodak playsport series, which I mount in a foam block that I then velcro and lanyard to my helmet. Have used this setup for 3 yrs and the camera is still with me.

I think the videos where the GoPro is attached to the craft itself are much more fun to watch than the helmet videos. POV is cool and all, but I would just rig the thing directly to the boat.
