I've had good simmering experience with my Brunton (now branded as Primus) 2-burner:

You can set a small pizza stone on the stove and let that heat up. Then set the pot on the stone. The dispersed heat from the stone won't burn your stuff. Then you can use the residual heat in the stone to warm up some flat bread.

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.

Try using a Heat diffuser. THey are light, pack easy and work well for this issue. This is why i finally retired all my colemen's and went partner. The new partner stove goes all the way down and I love it.

I'd bet the O-rings were bad as others stated on the partner you used? They say that if you don't seperate large pots from the grill by 1" the O-rings will melt.

Heat diffuser: I got mine local for $4...... It also keeps the pot handles from getting super hot I've found.
