I got the neoprene ones for rafting. I really do not care that I will get wet if I go for a swim, my fleece pants and neoprene socks will keep me warm in cold water never the less. I just do not want the latex for comfort reasons on long trips. I do not plan on useing them kayaking, but they will fit in my creekboat if need be. Playboat and squirt boat, no way. I have to use a thin neoprene pant for those two boats.

I have a pair of dry pants that get water in them 100% of the time water is above my waist regardless of how I have my dry top. (NRS Rock pants or something? forget the name). They're terrible.
They get a touch heavier when there is a gallon of water in each leg, though I never notice it at all while swimming. It's more of an annoyance when walking around than anything else.

Dry Bibs are the way to go when pairing up a dry top. Be sure to get the kind with a relief zipper though or you will pee yourself scouting a big drop I have never used dry pants and can't say with any real knowledge that you could flip over and drown, but the theory seems well justified. I guided years on the Upper with dry bibs mated with a dry top and have been fine, although on a tough swim it is nicer to have the full drysuit. I actually wear neoprene pants and a dry top creeking since I am looking for added protection as well as insulation if I take a swim. Kinda old school but it works.
