A really great beginner class II and lake boat all in one is the Dagger Approach.

I ran the Upper C my first season in this boat and it is totally stable, never came close to flipping it in a rapid.

It also has a drop-down skeg for straight tracking on the lakes, I take mine fishing or just out for a power paddle on our local lake.

Awesome beginner boat, has a hatch for gear, tons of foot room and it is rollable because it has small knee/thigh rests and adjustable backband and footpegs.

Check one out, they're pretty hard to find used though...

Thanks alot for the info everyone. I'm still in the researching mode for the new/used kayak. I keep coming back to the Old Town Rush model though for its relative lightweight and multiple use character. If anyone happens to come across a used one please keep me in mind. I can get new for $360+ tax at Dick's w/ a coupon. Hoping to keep the kayak cost to less than $400 for starters.

What paddle specs would ya'll estimate would work for me? Degrees? I do think I want a bent model as I do have some wrist discomfort at times from the incessant mouse clicking at work. Not really wanting to spend more than say $100 if at all possible on a paddle.

Thanks again!
