yeah ,i guess i misinterpreted that. That would be a sweet innovation then.I f the ferrule was REAL solid and slid into the female part to varying depths [ fire away with sarcastic comments] and could be locked into various positions then any gaps covered with a sliding lockable sleeve or snap on little covers. You would probably have to use screws so pins aren't sticking out. Maybe the gaps don't really matter. I suppose having less flexibility in the center 20+ cm or so of the paddle might compromise performance somehow, but maybe not.If they could make the ferrule as flexible as the rest of the shaft and still way strong that would be good but likely jack up the cost. What about a 3 piece that comes with 2 or 3 different length center pieces. Just ideas.

Another great innovation would be a cataraft tube that could be narrower in diameter, perhaps with a series of wide cam straps, as well as shorter. Perhaps the frame could then be telescoping to accomodate a range of tubes from 10' to 18'. Of course the additional weight could result in diminishing performance at shorter lengths but the flexibility and additional cost could be worth analyzing.
