The one inch flat tubular webbings have plenty of strength provided they are not abraded.
Depending on the type of rope they can be much stronger than flat tubulars of plain webbings.
I think we're talking about the D Ring mount failing and not the D ring itself.
Provided it is a welded D of reasonable weight. Right ??
Best option will almost always be to secure to multiple places on a well secured frame in a pin release.
Then on a paddle raft somehow spread the load over multiple D's.
