Thanks for all the advice! I'll definately go visit Confluence Kayaks when I find time (too many summer weddings are taking up my weekends!).

Where exactly is the Golden play park?

It's in Golden along Clear Creek at the west end of 10th just west of Lyons Park.

beginner boat

I would recommend trying out different brands and sizes of boats before you buy. I started kayaking last summer, and I ended up with a Wavesport Siren. Sure, it's not as stable as a Dagger Juice, but it's much easier to roll. I am 5'-7" tall, 120 lbs, and I'm crammed into it. I also love the outfitting that WS offers. If I were you, I would check out the smaller Wavesport boats. I think the EZG 42 would be better for you.

At the school the smaller people perfer the Kinetic to the Stubby, Carries a line better, narrower, lower deck. The piedra is also a great smaller person beginner boat for a budget.

The LL Trigger is the new hot one for us. The sub 130's have been loving it. some people like the speed of the Dagger GT better but we have had trouble keeping the outfitting together in it. Both of these will surf better than the budget models. Good luck.
