My local shop guy said the rubber gaskets have a lifespan that makes a used one prone to need a gasket replacement soon after purchase. is that just him trying to sell me something or is it legit?
Honestly the gasket condition isn't as important as the wear/use of the top itself. Some jackass who was not very careful with his gear could have easily torn a neck gasket without hardly using the top.....but it's more likely all you will find is old well-worn gear. Not to say it's not worth a quick look on Craig's list and Ebay...
wrist gaskets hardly every wear out. a new neck gasket will cost you $50 to have someone else replace it, or $30 if you buy the materials and do it yourself. I end up replacing a neck gasket every 2 seasons anyway, so it's not a big deal to me.
