bent shaft AT4

I just purchased a new paddle: bent shaft (smaller shaft) AT4 Play. I paddled with a Werner straight shaft for many yrs. As you know, the blades on those Werners really wear down. The one I have is 8 yrs. old! Anyway, my point is: this AT4 has non-dihedral blades. I've been in the river once w/ it so far. It's a little weird. Any tips on how to get used to it? Or what I can do psychologically? I know it's supposed to be easier on your wrists, but I found my right forearm cramping up somewhat. Any comments are greatly appreciated!!

work on technique

I went to a bent shaft a couple of years ago to try to ease my tendonitis. I finally got that mostly under control, but the biggest factor was technique rather than the bent shaft. Bent shaft does help. This may not be an issue for you, but if I paddle from the torso with less arm action it makes a tremendous difference with tendonitis.

No suggestions re the blade except to just get used to it. The foam core blades might be a little softer bite and an easier transition than the AT4 blade.

massage therapy

I don't have any paddling tips for you, but can tell you that massage therapy can do wonders to ease the pain of tendonitis.
Massage can release trigger points in the muscles as well as reduce scare tissue build up from overuse and injury. Limph Drainage can do great things for inflammed areas do to strains or sprians.
I live in Boulder and have an office downtown if you are interested in trying it out. I will be happy to offer a initial promotional rate.
Good Luck to you!
