beginner PFD

hello friends -

I'm new to the kayaking world and am currently learning to roll with another newbie friend. he has access to an indoor heated pool, so I'm hoping to have the roll down before summer. (if anyone with experience in co springs wants to help us learn...we wouldn't mind )

anyways, i'm looking at setting up my gear. I have a prijon rockit boat that I am really enjoying. I've paddled jacksons, BigEZs, and a few others and like the prijon almost as much as the jacksons.

my short question turned into a long story: what are some reccommendations for a PFD? I clearly won't be doing any big water anytime soon, so any "cheaper" pfd's that will be efficient and SAFE?

The low cost, solid pfd choice is the wedge-e. I think CKS as em.

PFD's

In North America you really don't have to worry about PFD's for saftey. Most boating shops will only sell Coast Guard approved jackets. The difference in cost often falls down to bells and whistles. The more pockets and straps the more expensive the PFD. Safety is not being increased- just the features. So, find a jacket that has the features you need and don't pay for what you'll never use.

Stohlquist makes some ggod stuff, but if your trying to save a few bucks look at MTI. They make great jackets as well. Astral has replaced Lotus as the primieum PFD maker. Also check at your local shop. Maybe they have something left over from last year or other clearence stock.

Consider getting one that already has a knife tab, so you can have one easily available for safety.
