I bought a used Avon from Jeff Colteaux / Badassrafts.com a couple years ago. He lists on the NRS site under his name.. My primary question was if there were leaks or not. The response was "No leaks!". When I received the raft, it had over 20+ pinholes in it plus one 1/4 puncture that needed to be patched straight out of the box. The valve boots were in terrible shape too. After much harassment over several months, I did get some money back and he also offered to exchange the raft. Again, only after several months of harassing him. The outcome was never certain and he vanished for long periods of time so I did allot of work on it not expecting any resolution from his end. After a ton of work while waiting, I had refurbed it enough that I kept it and did not exchange. The only reason I still have it is that it's not worth selling to me. It's a good enough boat now and holds for about 3 days now but if he had been honest I would have never bought it to begin with.
I have purchased allot of used boats online but his was the first time I was screwed by another boater. I didn't enjoy being a dick and harassing him but it was more about being blatantly lied to than the money. Anyway hopefully, he spends some time with his raft wrapped on allot of rocks in future seasons and learns something about not screwing people over.
I'm sure some of his used gear is fine but I would not buy anything from him without looking at it in person and soap testing it, ect.
