2005 71gal Salto

Any Salto faithful paddle the new one yet? Is it really that ugly?

I sat in one...

at Gauley Fest last month. It looks sweet. Truly bomber. Even the thigh braces have i-beam style reinforcing. I want one. Anyone paddle one yet? Thoughts?

How big was the old one? I liked the boat, but being over 200 lbs, the old one seemd just a little too small. Is this one a lot bigger?

www.steepcreeks.com has the old Salto at 66 gallons and I put the new one at 71 gallons by converting the liters to gallons. The length shortened from 8'1" to 8' even.

I've talked to a bunch of the Eskimo guys back east and they're all loving the new boat. I'll have one coming this may if you'd like to paddle it, drop me a line. I can also order you one if you know you're ready for one. I'm in at 185lbs and also thought the old design was great but needed more volume for me, so I'm really excited about the new boat also. I've heard the hull speed and resurfacing remain about the same, but the nose stays up better in the choppy stuff. If you have any other questions, post em and i'll get you some answers.

One of my girlfriends broke her old Salto at the first Cheoah release this season, and promptly dropped her $$ on one of the new Saltos as soon as they came out. However, by the end of the Ocoee season here (early Nov), she'd put in a couple of calls and traded back down to the old model-- said she just couldn't get a good feel for the new one, and really didn't like it compared to the old boat.

I guess this would be a more helpful post if it had specifics about how they paddled, comparitively, but I didn't ever get any time in the "New" Salto, and can't speak for it. I do know my gal is pretty average-sized, taller (5'7"-5'8"-ish) and medium build, so maybe the larger volume was part of the reason she didn't really take to the new one?
