A lot of people are asking... why should I support this as a private boater, since it only helps commercials? Another way to look at it is, if the bill fails what happens? I assume that if the bill fails, the Taylor developers will file a lawsuit against the raft companies. If they win, and shut the raft companies down, what will be the impact to rafting and kayaking in colorado?

The passage of the bill may not strengthen private access, but the failure of the bill could potentially limit overall access.

Any comments on what happens if the bill fails, and how this impacts private boaters? Still trying to understand the nuances. Seems like if the bill fails, the developers may be able to boot the commercials on the taylor and just might be able to take out the private boaters on that stretch too?

Also, does anyone have any good links to water law in the US. I'm intrigued by comments of other states having different laws that allow the right to float.

Nathan thanks for your input on this.

I like the way Deepsouth is looking at this,

Think about, what if this does not pass and the commercials get kicked off the Taylor, then word spreads through the cattleman's association as well as developer circles and next thing you know commercial companies are kicked off other runs.

Do you really think that if a landowner restricts commercial river access that they are going to allow private boaters to float through? I highly doubt it.

I would be willing to bet that if this passes then it will eventually turn into the true right to float laws that this state so desperately needs.

The comments on the C. Springs paper's site are interesting.

If you're a lawyer and your soul is simmering in a wine reduction sauce in hades.

Always interesting to see how the other half lives.
