Update from the GCPBA Board of Directors

By way of an update for Grand Canyon Private Boaters Association members
and other interested parties, there have been a number of changes in
the organization.

The last weekend in October, the Board met in Flagstaff to introduce and
welcome five new members to the GCPBA Board of Directors -- David Levine,
Marshall Nichols, Earl Perry, and Rich Phillips. Pictures and bios for each
of the new members will be added to the GCPBA web site in the near future,
as well as a LOT of new content and general updating. Our Waiting list
publication is under way, if you have anything to contribute in the way of
content, stories, DO recipes, send em our way !! editor@gcpba.org is the
email address for the Waiting List, webmaster@gcpba.org for the website.

As part of the Board's action during this meeting, the following officers
were elected:

Dave Yeamans - President
Rich Phillips - Vice-President
David Levine - Treasurer - Membership Director
Marshall Nichols - Secretary - Webmaster

This meeting also served to position GCPBA for the future in a number of
ways. Board responsibilities and activities were discussed and assigned.
Particular attention was paid to preparing to evaluate and further
contribute to the process of finalizing the river management plan for the
Grand Canyon. Indeed, a great deal of time was spent preparing for the Park
Service's release of its Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), which
will lead to the development of the actual plan.

As part of the Board's examination of ongoing and future operations, it was
discovered that membership services and other inquiries by phone and mail
have not been adequately served in the last year. Those who have tried to
contact GCPBA by the listed phone number (a message service) have not
receive timely responses as well as with the mail inquiries. A new system
has been put into place to ensure that the organization is responsive to
phone contacts, as well as via email, mail and other correspondence
channels.

The Board will hold its next meeting following the release of the FEIS, and
in connection with the GCPBA annual membership meeting, which will be held
in Denver on December 4th. There will be a newswire to announce the exact
location and times, plan to attend this event !!!

GCPBA has accomplished a great deal in the last year - evaluating a complex
and important Park Service proposal, and crafting a creative partnership in
the river community that will help enhance private boater access to the
river through the Grand Canyon. The new Board is looking forward to serving
GCPBA membership even more effectively in the future.

And see the rivers how they run
Through wood and mead, in shade and sun,
Sometimes swift, sometimes slow,
Wave succeeding wave, they go
A various journey to the deep
Like human life to endless sleep.
