Shoshone Spike!

Ran two laps with some peeps on Shoshone today- first one at 11:30 AM, probably 4740 cfs. Second one at 1:30- HUGE DIFFERENCE! Tombstone was completely covered- had to be well over 5500 I estimated. Although the gauge for Shosh is up at Dotsero and does not register damn releases (pun intended), I looked at the South Canyon Wave gauge later and saw a spike of probably 1500 cfs. Turns out it was close to 6000 on the second lap.

I have heard that the dam is planning a large release tonight or tomorrow and my question to the boating community is- does anyone know how to get some pre-warning about that sort of dramatic change?

I always scout from the road on the drive in and estimate the level. But does the dam itself have a gauge, or is there a way to hear ahead of time what they are planning?

Hey LeftofCenter. Does Glenwood Springs Electric Department still own the power plant? You might start there.

We often see releases in Aug. I was there today also. Quite a difference. It is my understanding Excel owns the hydro plant now,
