Flows are low, but legal. Road into the top isn't open yet. Goop soup.

I had called the permit office last Wednesday, and they left me a voicemail Friday saying they did not have any update on road conditions, and have only issued 1 permit so far for Chamberlains. Zion adventure company did not call me back about shuttle, so probably not operating it yet.

Flows are getting close to 600 if that is still the max.

Also worth mentioning -- a group of us ran this in early *May* last year, and there was still shelf ice and big drifts of old snow as far down as the Deep Creek confluence.

The snow wasn't much of a concern, but aufeis or shelf ice could be a bad deal in such a constrained place.

Every year is different and all that, but I'd suspect it's still very much winter in those depths right now, regardless of the road conditions to get to the put-in.

Be aware, and prepared.

Low flows. Grumble.

I was disappointed years ago when they said max flow is 600 cfs. We got in there at prior to that at 1000 cfs, and I felt it would be ideal boating with much more flow.

If you happen to be in there *coincidentally* when it's say, 1500 cfs, and are comfortable in class IV/V, I wouldn't get too stressed.

ALWAYS watch for wood in there at any flow. Most likely you'll have at least 20 river-wide strainers to deal with.

One of the magical places to take a kayak/duckie.

I'm in zion now on a nonkayaking trip, but have my creekboat and all necessary gear for a wilderness run. Current flow is 260 cfs. Is that too low? I plan on going to the visitors center tomorrow (sat) and finding out more, and if the stars align (flows) paddle Sunday.

Ran it once at 400ish. The first five or six miles before the deep creek confluence were difficult, with barely any water in the NF Virgin. You can probably make it, but expect the ratio of dragging/shouldering to paddling until deep creek to be undesirable.
