Yampa river campsites and hiking attractions

We are planning a multi-day Yampa river rafting in early August. Can anyone tell me where to find detailed information on the campsites from deerlodge park to echo park? Also any suggestion to the hiking attractions along the river?

Thanks so much

Park Service will assign sites. You may be able to request, but generally they tell you where you will camp. Avoid Island Park camping, bugs will be bad.

They only assign sites during high use season (for Yampa that ended July 8, Lodore ends Sept 9). During low-use (non-lottery) sites are on a first come basis.

Check out Mathers, it was everyone's favorite on our trip in June. Box Elder sites were nice too (we were at 3 and there was a nice pool and good shade). Teepee was an oven.

Just got off the Yampa/Green on Sunday. We camped at Anderson Hole, Harding Hole 1, Laddie 2, and Boxelder 3. All were great in their own way. Harding Hole and Boxelder got the rave reviews from our group. Anderson Hole was good for us on a short rainy day with a late start due to running shuttle. Ponderosa's not so bad. It had an ant problem last time I was there. Big Joe may look inviting, but do the extra four miles to Harding Hole. Of course, we had higher flows than you will have and wasn't much work.

There's a lot of hiking to be done. A lot of it happens in short bursts around Harding Hole and near the ranch. Be sure to search for the Moki Steps on river right near the ranch. It's all good stuff. Take your time and enjoy the solitude.
