Yama for beginner

Hi All,

I'm up in Steamboat with my 10 yr old boy who we've been paddling with for a couple of years, but he hasn't been on a river yet (in his own kayak). He's been on many trip, almost has a roll and is comfortable in the H2O.

What would be a good run on the Yampa for him? I was scoping out the town run and it looks busy with lots of riffles and obstacles. I went up a ways on the back frontage road and that's a lot of fishing water. Beyond town is looking like a pond.

Any ideas? Below Fletcher Park was recommended for tubers on a sign, but how long is that run before hitting town? Ah ha - Yampa River Tubing - AllTrips

Thanks as always!
