Will I be able to find someone to paddle with on ARK?

I will be flying into Denver on the 14th this month and was hoping to get to paddle the 15th (Sunday) on the Arkansas. I'd like to get on the Numbers and possibly the Piny Creek section. I am a solid class IV Southeastern paddler. Will I be able to find someone at the putin or takeout to paddle with, or should I just get a playboat and park and play? Or if anyone is interested in taking me down it then I'd be very appreciative and return the favor if you ever make it over to the SE. Thanks ahead for any replies.

The numbers section of the Ark is running at pretty low flows right now and most likely will be when you get here. Not sure it would be challenging at all. You might want to plan on paddling something else like Gore or Bailey. Gore will most likely be running and Bailey is hit or miss. Feel free to check with me as the date gets closer, I'd be happy to boat with you on either run.

Hey I disagree. The Numbers is fine at this level (especially for an easterner not expecting BIG water). I've had fun on it below 200 cfs!!! Granted you will not have that big water feel, but it is fun and class III+ at this level. Pine Creek should be plenty exciting at this level too. If you show up before 10 am at the bridge above number 5 and jump in front of any car with a kayak on top of it, you shouldn't have to wait too long before you find a group to boat with.

Try Gore if you want that big water feel, but it is at least class 4++ and I like a creek boat on it (ok call me a pansy). I'd recommend a creeker for Bailey as well, but they turned the water off for the time being. Wish I could join you, but I work weekends.

paddling in CO

The reason that I was planning on Arkansas section is b/c it's close to CKS. I won't be able to transport my boat or paddle with me so I'm going to rent a boat (creek or play depending on what I'm running). Even though Gore and Bailey are a good drive from Salida, I'm sure there are other outfitters closer to those creeks, right? Bailey does look like an ultra sweet run that would make my cup of tea. My major concern would be breaking in a boat I'm not used to on a IV+/V creek. That's another reason why I'd like to stick with the easier PineCreek and Numbers section.

Thanks again for your replies,

What boat are comfortable with? Perhaps you can demo it from one of the local shops.

I paddle a Necky Mission to play, an RPM MAX for big water, and NOMAD/MAX when creeking.

I'd be up for the Numbers on Sunday.

I'd be up for the Numbers on Sunday, if other people are. I think a playboat is totally fine for that.
