Arizona paddling next weekend
Nice pics Tom. Definitely some motivation here. Was looking for that. Hellsgate looks amazing. And I work next week through at least Thursday so I'm out (Austin, just stay down there, Evan's cool with it).
Trip Planning Thread Hijack:
Tina and I are looking to rally to AZ next weekend, and will be looking for a posse and/or shuttle options for paddling on Friday, Saturday, Sunday. This will be the typical rotating shift, all-night drive on Thursday night, and returning Sunday night to roll into civilization earlyish Monday. Drive times based on living in Denver.
The rivers, regions and options we are looking at are as follows. We are flexible, and going to try to hit the best option based on flows. Bringing the long boat for flatwater overnighting, and the creek boat, based on what we run, and which day, etc. Not so much on the V+ type mission, definitely trying to avoid anything less than a 5th descent and passing on Hellsgate this trip. Keen for an overnight option with minimal portaging.
Region A: The Verde and East Verde. Potentially/probably an overnight.
Paddle the Doll Baby stretch of East Verde all the way to the Horseshoe Reservoir takeout on the Verde.
Paddle the Verde from Beasley Flat to either Sheep Bridge takeout or Horseshoe Res.
Agua Fria. It's in the area, it looks sweet. This might be first choice.
Region B: AZ Gila Box, and run whichever has the best flow into the confluences; either the San Francisco, Gila, or Eagle Creek. Eagle Creek had the best flow last night... surprisingly.
The NM Gila Box I'd like to hit as well if running. (The WWSR Middle Box, since I confused everyone.)
San Francisco River wilderness stretch (above Clifford AZ) looks and sounds sweet, and would be it's own undertaking.
Anyone going anywhere else? I'll be watching flows this week with crossed fingers. Call me doggy. Woof.
