"Down by the River" by Yonder Mountain String Band - never heard it from anyone other than the original band - but a fantastic river song.

"Down by the River" by Neil Young - it'll make your lady want to snuggle up to you for sure.
Nothing in the world is more yielding and gentle than water. Yet it has no equal for conquering the resistant and tough. The flexible can overcome the unbending; the soft can overcome the hard. - Lao Tse

Stare intensely at one person and play ''duelin banjos''. Raise your eyebrows for added effect. Get some.

"Mighty River" by Railroad would help to have some friends come along with a mando and a fiddle to have all the ladies twirling about but you could get by with just a geee-tar...

and it goes a little something like this...

sun risin' on the shoulder
won't take much to grow us older, no
just a little time

i was in the livin' callin'
could it be that you were callin' too
my, my

i think about it

blows out & bowls ya over
don't take long to realize, we're standin'
on shaky ground

ridin' on a backroad dreamin'
hear a voice tellin' you, you're losin'
something dear

do ya doubt it?

in the mighty river, rollin' along
in the mighty river, losin' hold
in the mighty river, over my head
oh, oh

write me down as one who knew
revenge means more revenge on you
what ya gonna do?

in a song that i once sang
i heard a bell & it just rang my blues
right away

think about it

in the mighty river, rollin' along
oh, washin' clean
in the mighty river, i'm over my head
oh, tearin' free

Of course, no river trip would be complete without some Grateful Dead - songs like Ripple, Sugar Magnolia and Friend of the Devil come to mind as faves on past trips
