jconn is spot on. Stick to Playa Carmen (in front of Frank's, basically) if you want more mellow waves. Sta. Teresa for your barrels. It can be a long paddle out but nice long rides too. Make the hike up the steep driveway to Buenos Aires, their food and company is great. Find Alex to rent a board for a good price (North of Frank's on the right) Typical morning offshore/afternoon onshores. Depending on who you talk to, this place was discovered/corrupted years ago, but is by no means Tamarindo or Quepos. I remember in 2001, Doug from MPSC talking about how quiet and undiscovered it used to be. Double-edged sword for him, I guess. Keep an eye out for the blond riding up and down the beach in full-on equestrian attire...some things never change.
