Spain travel ideas

so heading to Spain for a friends wedding in June, gonna be missing some sweet boating, kinda bummer but gonna a great experience.

I really would love some ideas for great fun active stuff to do while im there. Thinking of someway to do a river trip??? sweet mountain bike areas??? certain must see beach or off the beaten path suggestions are a trip saver.

Thanks to all replies!!

The climbing in spain is amazing. especially in the south and north. not so much in the middle. I've only been to el chorro near malaga but it was incredible. I've heard that the northern climbing is just as good. Have fun.

It’s a large country so depending where you are you have a lot of options. San Sebastian in the Basque region has nice beaches and a great old town to walk around and eat tapas. If you’re on the Mediterranean side Barcelona is a nice city and traveling up to coastal towns like Cadaques, which is where Dali and Picasso hung out, if fun. If you’re further east hitting Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granada (highly recommended for the Alhambra) are three fantastic cities.

It’s a very fun and interesting country.

Barcelona and the Costa Brava!!Nice beaches, great food, fine women, plenty of art and history ,ruins, mountains, party central, and not as expensive as many parts of Europe.Sort is apx. 1 1/2 hrs.away they held the Worlds there once,on the Noguera Pallaresa, there is commercial rafting and probably kayak rentals.

Other parts of Spain that seem really cool;Merida,Trujillo,Avila,Galicia, and the Algarvae[Portugal].Have A great trip.

Had the good fortune of attending the Freestyle Worlds in Sort in 2001. Maybe the best Worlds for community support, culture and local beauty ever. The comp was spectacular as well with BV paddler Dustin Urban taking the Silver in his first US Team comp as a junior. Sort and the Pyrenees are spectacular. Barcelona is an amazing city. As previously stated, Costa Brava and Cadaques are beautiful. After the comp, we circumnavigated the Pyrenees, a wonderful adventure. Ainsa is 5? hours NW of Sort and has an old section that I hope to visit again someday. Had maybe the best and most memorable dinner of my life in the plaza overlooking the Rio Pau? there. Some beautiful creeks and rivers in that region. The Guggenheim in Bilbao was a highlight if you're into modern (Frank Gehry) architecture.

You could rent a kayak or cop a commercial raft run in Sort. There's a beautiful national park up valley from there. We also paddled a section of the Ara. There's an old Roman road hanging on the side of the gorge... wow. Another spectacular national park (Ordessa) up valley from there. That is in the middle of the Pyrenees up valley from Ainsa.

My maps and guidebooks are back home in Maine so this is all from memory but that was one of my fave trips for sure. Spain is relatively inexpensive and the people were warm and welcoming. The Lonely Planet guidebook is great.

I'm jealous...
