California Creeks - South Fork Salmon Idaho
Everything is straight forward. At these flows there are two notable drops and several minor rapids above devil creek. Both on s turns. Sharp right then left turns. The first has a house size rock after the hard right in the middle of the river. Stay river left of the rock and stay left as you round the left turn. There is a nice line river left. Its hard to scout. class 3. The next is just after a long calm section with a log deck then hard right s turn to left. Clearing out the left turn you want to pick the least offensive drop about 1/3 river left. If you have any issues with these two drops. Pack your ass back to the put in via the trail on river left! These are gona be the main stay of ways to come. The 6 miles between lawman and elk are the crux. Solid class 3+ back to back boat scouting action for almost all of the 6 miles. From the bridge to grayhound is kinda like below the put in. The action picks up below Grayhound and says solid to Fall Creek.
There is a nice fresh water spring 100 yards up river left of the car bridge. Get out and walk the road to the spring.
2 miles up the road to Warren is an emergency phone on the left side of the road in a wooden shed just before you come to the houses. Bring a credit card just in case.
Wave cash money at jet boats on the salmon. I always get picked up and they usually have cold beer.
