I got denied for a Yampa permit this spring but am still holding out hope for a float through Dinosaur this spring. I'm an Outdoors writer/photog for The Denver Post trying to pull off a historical piece retracing a Denver Post expedition down the Yampa 80 years ago. I'm also an experienced kayaker and oarsman with my own boats/gear and several multi-day river trips under my belt. Can't go May 20-June 3 (paddling in Idaho) but just about any other dates this season should work if anyone has a permit and space for a couple extras on a 4-5 day trip (4 days and higher water are preferable).
Thanks,
Scott Willoughby swilloughby@denverpost.com

Have you tried contacting the permitting office and telling them what you're doing? Sometimes land management agencies will make special considerations for journalists, especially if they feel like it will give good publicity and promote the area...
I keep missing the rangers (they leave by noon) but am hoping I might be able to pick up a cancellation. Not counting on any special consideration, but I probably wouldn't turn it down, either. Thanks for the tip.
Just got off it yesterday. Shit was roarin and still rising. Awesome trip.
